Protection from bright light

When using sunglasses we want two things: We want to protect our eyes against the harmful UV light and we want to reduce the transmission to increase comfort. We can do alot for the functionality by adjusting the method to achieve the second point. If we are able to only reduce the most disturbing light, we can make more use of the useful light instead of decreasing transmission in general and thus reducing the information sent into the retina.

High quality sunglasses should be tested to come up with the optimal combination between filter effect and transmission. With properly fitted ML Filter Sunglasses you can enjoy a much higher comfort.

In modern sunglasses several factors contributes to the total effect. The curves shows the absorption of some of the ML Filters. The horizontal lines shows the absorption for our different polarized layes we combine with ML Filter. The circle indicates where the "good light" is. As an example you can see the higlighted area in the image, ML Filter 450 combined with a polarized layer with 65 % absorption.

Photophobia is increased sensitivity to light

Some people are more sensitive to light than others. Unnatural sensitivity to light is called photophobia. Photophobia is more common when growing older. It often depends on the crystalline lens and that it looses opacity and scatter the light. This scattered light is hard for the brain to interpret and we experience discomfort. A cap or a sunhat can be enough to eliminate the discomfort.

Photophobia can also occur in conditions of inflammation such as iritis. Some eye diseases might also have photophobia as one of the symptoms. When experiencing photophobia, it's important to block direct sunlight, reduce transmission and eliminate reflections.

It's important to protect yourself from bright light in order to avoid discomfort. A suncap is a perfect aid.
